Our societal idea of natural beauty has quickly been skewed in the digital age. Image modification has been prevalent for years on a commercial scale, in magazines and on billboards; however, more recently, photoshop, filters, and other editing software is readily available to anyone with a smartphone or a laptop. People drastically change their appearance in images to share on social media, and we believe them when they say it’s not retouched or edited to smooth their skin or make them look thinner. This has vastly contributed to people’s feelings of inferiority and a clouded perception of what humans actually look like. This series of images is intended to be a play on words with the combination of unique and individual elements of nature with mass produced beauty products and tools. It is to encourage the viewer to contemplate what natural beauty actually is and how they may be contributing to this plastic and manufactured culture rather than encouraging individuality.
